Powering Our Future

We’ve reached a defining moment for energy policy, and the response from the Trump administration is matching the scale of the challenge. By invoking the Defense Production Act of 1950, President Trump signed multiple executive orders to grow America’s energy capacity and strengthen the systems that power our economy and our national defense.

The American Security Coalition supports this effort to establish an America First supply chain, as energy scarcity and the need for independence becomes more of a reality by the day.

What it all comes down to is this: energy security is national security. A nation that cannot reliably produce and deliver its own energy is vulnerable, both economically and strategically. By prioritizing domestic production through diversified sources, the country can reduce its reliance on unstable foreign partners while strengthening our own grid.

By bringing back the Defense Production Act, the administration is focusing on key areas that have long needed attention. America’s grid infrastructure, for example, has reached a bottleneck. By accelerating domestic manufacturing capacity, the U.S. can ensure transformers, transmission components, and other essential equipment are available whenever they are needed, and by a friendly source as well.

Equally important is finding the sources to power the grid, anticipating tomorrow’s demand as forces like global trade and AI make it necessary for the country to keep up. The need for reliable, scalable power is only getting stronger by the day.

Natural gas will play a central role in this effort. President Trump’s series of executive orders will expand the country’s transmission, processing, storage, and liquefied natural gas capacity as America fights for its position as a global energy leader. Domestic petroleum production, refining, and logistics are also expanding, reinforcing the usage of a major national resource that will remain essential to transportation and manufacturing for years to come.

While coal has been often overlooked in recent years, it is being recognized again for its reliability as a dependable baseload power. During a time when grid stability is essential, a steady and consistent energy supply is not optional. By supporting the coal supply chain of Appalachia alongside other energy sources, the administration is ensuring no steps are missed in advancing a stronger energy policy.

The American Security Coalition has consistently emphasized the link between energy independence and national strength. When our country has a resilient domestic supply chain, we reduce our exposure to geopolitical instability.

Critics may frame this return to the Defense Production Act as a trade-off between growth and taking part in a global economy. That framing misses the point. By expanding our domestic capacity under strong regulatory standards, the United States can lead with cleaner energy solutions, while also selling any extra resources to allied countries.

While boosting our GDP and national independence, this investment in domestic energy production will also strengthen the job market and make life more affordable. From manufacturing to construction to engineering, families will expand their opportunity within the communities they already live in.

By cutting past bureaucratic delays and directing national resources where they are most urgently needed, these executive orders recognize a challenge that has been boiling beneath the surface for years.

America has the resources. We have the workforce. We have the skills. It’s just a matter of saying yes to using them, and the Trump administration has been the one to rightly do it.
